Decan Refuge Camp Field Trip

We had a great time learning about animals and the environment of Djibouti at the Decan Cheetah Refuge for our first ISD field trip. Thanks to Magali and the other staff and volunteers at Decan who answered our many questions. The refuge is home to horses, cheetahs, zebras, oryx, caracals, tortoises, porcupines, baboons, lions, gazelles, dik dik, kudu, goats, donkeys, squirrels and so many birds and of course bugs, like big beetles.

It was a warm day and we enjoyed a few minutes in the shade of a shelter to drink and have a snack.

2016-2017 Calendar

Check out our updated school calendar:

We've adjusted the school calendar based on feedback from a number of parents. We believe this gives ample educational time and rest throughout the school year. In general, we need to have around 180 days of school that results in over 900 hours of educational time for the kids. When you add in various holidays and traditions, it is NOT an easy thing to plan out the year. We've included a number of days at the end of the year in order to accommodate for students who miss class for sickness, family preference, or travel.

Located at Gabode 4, Lot 9

(near the Gabode tennis courts and across the street from Ecole Ileys)

The new location is really coming together. The classroom space looks good with all the technology for a great first year. The property doesn't have as much outdoor play space as I would like, but we'll be negotiating with a few sports centers to make sure there will be activity space for kids on a weekly basis. Photos coming soon!

Our goal is to provide a family-friendly education that promotes community and benefits both our student body and broader Djibouti. For this reason, we are a not-for-profit school. Proceeds from ISD will be poured directly back into the school to ensure ongoing local growth and improvement. You can find more of our goals and useful information here.

We recently received our first container of supplies. More will arrive this summer, including playground equipment. Click here to see some photos of a potential classroom, supplies, the very beginnings of our library (hundreds of books are on the way), and more! It will be beautiful when all the materials come together with great teachers.
